Performing With Orchestra

DSC_5701.jpg

On April 8, 2017, 42 of my students performed with the Washington Heights Chamber Orchestra of NYC.  It was an incredible night!  For two years, it was my dream to invite many of my deserving students to perform with a professional orchestra.  Performing with an orchestra is a feeling like no there, and I wanted all of my dedicated, hardworking, wonderful students to experience it.

Playing together in or with an ensemble is so much more than counting and knowing where the melody fits into the accompaniment.  Performing with an orchestra involves learning about the world the composer created, not just via the solo lines, but by becoming immersed int he story's characters and scenes.  Orchestral accompaniment isn't merely about adequately projecting over a large group of musicians; it is about learning to share space with them, to hear how their unique and often subtle parts of the story make yours more relevant.

We are very excited about April, 2019 for our next extravaganza!!
